It was anything but a positive evening for Dortmund fans as Edin Terzic’s men fell to Stuttgart on the road once again. BVB had a fraction of the possession in the first half yet somehow held it to 0-0. The second half was when the squad completely capitulated as both Serhou Guirassy and Silas found the net. Not only was there a complete lack of visible on-field tactics, but Dortmund were struck with a cluster of injuries in Youssoufa Moukoko, Marius Wolf, Marcel Sabitzer and Julian Ryerson. This was a match where everything went wrong for BVB and we deserved to lose it. There was never chance, not when we park the bus from the first whistle.
Anyway, here is an attempt at picking the Man of the Match:
He’s a workhorse and was perhaps one of the only players working the ball forward. In addition, his passing success rate was 78% which might sound bad, but it’s much higher than many other players on the pitch today.
Once again, Hummels is one of our strongest players. He recovered the ball eight times and won several aerial duals. He was also the only player who seemed capable of accurately passing a long-ball, not that any of them led to goal.
He won most of his ground duals as he was sucked into the central defense for nearly the entirety of this match. He also had more successful dribbles than most of our attacking and midfield players, which doesn't make things looks great...
He was heavily involved in the defense today, like the other nominees. He did win most of his ground duals, and he passed into the final third a whopping 10 times, which feels like a lot since BVB spent so little time in Stuttgart’s final third.
Who was your Man of the Match?

There you go. I tried. I can’t say anyone especially deserved the MotM.
The most concerning thing to me, is that we looked worse against Stuttgart today than we did a month ago.
Now let’s put this cup loss behind us and hope for better things this weekend.
