MOTM Poll: Borussia Dortmund Hold on to Draw with Bayer Leverkusen

It definitely wasn’t pretty but BVB held on for a point against top of the table Leverkusen.

Borussia Dortmund held on for dear life at the BayArena today, coming away with an unlikely point, in a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, despite being on the receiving end of a bit of a shellacking. Dortmund took an early lead through Julian Ryerson, and from that point on it was all Leverkusen. Dortmund dug deep and defended pretty well, but there was no doubt who the better team was. It even looked like BVB may leave with all three points, but Leverkusen were eventually able to break through, with just ten minutes left, through Victor Boniface.

If you had offered me a point before the game today, I’d have taken it. Bayer Leverkusen are very good. They showed just how good they can be today, even despite not looking their best. I’ll definitely take that point!

Here are the nominations for Man of the Match in Dortmund’s 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Niclas Füllkrug

I thought Füllkrug did a good job of holding up the ball for his teammates and linking things up in offense. BVB didn’t have many chances to hurt Leverkusen, but Füllkrug seemed to be involved in all of them, and he was key in Dortmund’s goal.

Gregor Kobel

Kobel showed up with a couple important saves to keep Dortmund in the game.

Julian Ryerson

Ryerson found himself far upfield for reasons, and was more than happy to slot the opening goal home. He was also solid defensively as well, which helps!

Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels appears to be completely ageless. After his almost perfect performance against AC Milan earlier in the week, he showed up with another fantastic defensive effort. Very, very good.
