Looking Around the League: Leverkusen Cruise and Kane Keeps Scoring

It was a mostly predictable match day with a couple of surprises

We’re one match away from the winter break and one thing in the Bundesliga is obviously clear: Xavi Alonso’s Leverkusen are the real deal. The pharmaceutical football club brushed off their recent draws against BVB and Stuttgart by drubbing Frankfurt 3-0.

The win will ensure Bayer Leverkusen are top of the table through the new year.

Anyway, here are the results from matchday 15:

Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-2 Werder Bremen

Augsburg 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

VfL Bochum 3-0 Union Berlin

Darmstadt 0-1 Wolfsburg

Mainz 0-1 Heidenheim

RB Leipzig 3-1 Hoffenheim

Freiburg 2-0 FC Köln

Leverkusen 3-0 Frankfurt

Bayern Munich 3-0 Stuttgart

Momentum for Heidenheim, Leipzig and Bayern

Bundesliga newcomers, FC Heidenheim were away winners in Mainz, picking up a vital three points in their charge to stay above the drop zone. This was their second consecutive league win, lifting the squad eight points above the automatic relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Marco Rose’s Leipzig continue to impress with their fourth consecutive league win, this time over Hoffenheim, putting themselves into prime contention for Champion’s League qualification. Club legend, Emil Forsberg found the net in his final home appearance for Leipzig. The Swede will make an internal transfer to the New York Energy Drinks this winter.

While some of us may have anticipated an even match between Bayern and high-flying Stuttgart, the Bavarians proved to be dominant in a 3-0 win. Despite Stuttgart’s 63% possession, then only managed an xG of .41, while Bayern dominated the shot count with half as many passes throughout the match.

One match left before the break!
