We are just one week, or two games, away from the winter break, and not only are Bayer Leverkusen still top of the Bundesliga table, but Stuttgart are still mixing with the very best, sitting in third. Maybe, just maybe, we might see an upset this season? Bayern Munich are certainly doing their best to make that happen.
Anyway, here are the results from matchday 14:
Hoffenheim 3-1 VfL Bochum
Frankfurt 5-1 Bayern Munich
Heidenheim 3-2 SV Darmstadt
Union Berlin 3-1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
Werder Bremen 2-0 Augsburg
Wolfsburg 0-1 Freiburg
Borussia Dortmund 2-3 RB Leipzig
VfB Stuttgart 1-1 Leverkusen
FC Köln 0-0 Mainz
Leverkusen Draw in Meisterschale Six-Pointer
The first heavyweight clash of the season, between Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, ended in a 1-1 draw on Sunday, but Stuttgart probably feel like they should have come away with all three points. Going into this game, the question was whether Stuttgart could really hang with title challengers Leverkusen, but in the end, they were the better team.
Stuttgart went ahead through a really well-worked team goal that was finished off by Chris Führich, towards the end of the first half, but Leverkusen responded immediately after the break, with a goal from Florian Wirtz.
Despite the game ending 1-1, Stuttgart had quite a few chances to score more. Stuttgart racked up 2.6 expected goals, to Leverkusen’s 1.3, which is a good reflection of an open game that Stuttgart had the better of. It certainly seems like this Stuttgart side are the real deal!
How far can Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart go this season? And which of Frankfurt’s five goals against Bayern Munich were your favorite?
