Borussia Dortmund on the Hunt for a Left Back in January

Rich in spirit but not in cash, Sebastien Kehl is hitting the thrift stores in search of a left back.

Julian Ryerson’s recent ligament injury, picked up in the DFB-Pokal loss to Stuttgart, has left BVB a little exposed at the back. Dortmund are now relying on Ramy Bensebaini at left back and Marius Wolf at right back, with Thomas Meunier and maybe Mateu Morey (if he is ever able to stay healthy) backing up Wolf. Things are looking okay at right back (though I wouldn’t go as far as saying good...), but at left back, we’re clearly very, very stretched. Luckily, the club are on top of the problem, and have given Sebastien Kehl everything in their war chest to go and get the reinforcements the team need.

You might have grown a little weary about the direction the club is headed in lately. The summer transfer window was uninspiring, and things have been, at best, a little hit or miss on the pitch. But this news should lift your spirits. BVB won’t go quietly. They are committed to spending up to €6m in January on a much-needed left back!

What could the princely sum of €6m buy BVB in today’s transfer market? Plenty! Perhaps Luton Town’s €6m superstar left back, Ryan Giles, takes your fancy? Or maybe you’d prefer a left-back well skilled in the ways of the Championship and causing far too much trouble given how little he has achieved. Fantastic, how does Ipswich Town loan left back Brandon Williams take your fancy? Maybe you would prefer to look a little closer to home? That’s understandable. I’ve heard great things about Holsten Kiel’s Tom Rothe. He might be able to do a job in a pinch...

It’s good to be top of the food chain, with all the resources in the world to go and buy whoever we want, whenever we want. Everything is looking good for Dortmund!
