Borussia Dortmund are through to the Round of 16 of the Champions League after a 3-1 win against AC Milan at the San Siro. Goals from Marco Reus, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Karim Adeyemi secured all three points for Dortmund, who have qualified for the knockout stages of the tournament, and now sit top of Group F needing only a point to guarantee they finish top of the group.
Despite scoring three goals away from home and ultimately winning quite comfortably, I don’t think Dortmund were exceptional tonight. It was one of those games that easily could have gone another way. Dortmund scored their chances and Milan didn’t, and that’s the main thing.
Here are the nominations for Man of the Match in Dortmund’s 3-1 win against AC Milan.
You save a penalty, you get a nomination.
Hummels was exceptional from start to finish. He was in the right place at the right time all night long, snuffing out so many Milan chances that I had lost count by the end of the game.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens had a hand in both of Dortmund’s goals while he was on the pitch, and you can’t ask for much more than that!
If JBG gets credit for having a hand in all the goals Dortmund scored while he was on the pitch, so does Reus, who got a goal and an assist, and was responsible for getting things going in the sequence that led to Bynoe-Gittens scoring.
