Things haven’t gone quite as planned for Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig, all of whom will have title aspirations this season, in their first two matches. We all know BVB’s struggles, but Bayern Munich opened the season with a frustrating draw against Borussia Monchengladbach, and looked vulnerable before eventually beating FC Cologne, while RB Leipzig lost to Mainz in their season opener, but bounced back with a four goal thumping of Stuttgart on Friday.
The table is already a little chaotic, with only one team that is yet to register any points (Hertha Berlin) and one that has yet to drop any (Wolfsburg). It’ll take a bit of time for any meaningful narratives to form, but it’s certainly notable that none of the title contenders have kept a perfect record just two games in to the season.

Wolfsburg Off to a Perfect Start
None of the expected front runners have looked at their best yet, but keep an eye out on Wolfsburg, who have clocked up two wins and are looking pretty solid to start the season.
Two games into the season is obviously meaningless. Bayern have dropped points, and they’ve struggled in both their games so far, but they’re still the clear favorites to win the league this season. All three of the major title contenders stuttering out the gates doesn’t mean they’re not going to hit their stride and take to the top of the table, but it’s good to see a team like Wolfsburg starting well. If one (or all) of the contenders were to trip, it would be teams like Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, and Gladbach looking to catch them.
And you never know? Maybe we’ve all been looking at the wrong teams to topple Bayern off their throne...
