The 21/22 Bundesliga season is underway, and it kicked off with quite a bang. There were a few big wins, with Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, and Borussia Dortmund all putting a handful past their opponents, and there were one or two shocks, with Bayern Munich failing to beat Borussia Monchengladbach and Mainz claiming a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig. Most of all, however, the biggest news from the weekend was the return of fans! It was great to see fans filling stadiums all across Europe’s big leagues. The atmosphere is so much more enjoyable with the players able to feed off the noise that the crowd is making. Hopefully the Bundesliga will be back to packed houses before long.

Here’s a roundup from the weekend’s games:

Results

Borussia Monchengladbach 1-1 Bayern Munich

Union Berlin 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Augsburg 0-4 Hoffenheim

Arminia Bielefeld 0-0 Freiburg

Wolfsburg 1-0 VfL Bochum

VfB Stuttgart 5-1 Furth

Borussia Dortmund 5-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Mainz 1-0 RB Leipzig

FC Cologne 3-1 Hertha Berlin

Standings

A Great Start for BVB

Borussia Dortmund got off to the perfect start to their season by winning 5-2 against Frankfurt, but the good news extended beyond their own performance. In addition to BVB’s success at the Westfalenstadion, Bayern Munich’s draw with Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig’s surprise loss to Mainz were both great results for Dortmund.

There’s still an entire season left to play, so it’s not like this really means anything yet, but it’s nice to get off to the perfect start, with both of BVB’s title rivals dropping points as they win against tough opposition.

Or maybe I’m missing the real story here, and I should be talking about three points for BVB’s main title rival, Mainz.
