Borussia Dortmund’s Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney looks set to transfer to Sevilla FC, according to reports from Ruhr Nachrichten and the Danish network Sport 2. The rumored fee is small; rumored to be around €4 million. It may end up being slightly more, depending on how hard Dortmund’s front office negotiates, but regardless, BVB won’t be receiving any significant funds for Delaney.

Thomas Delaney arrived from Werder Bremen with the expectation that he would bring ferocity and physicality to Dortmund’s midfield. He definitely accomplished this, always being the most likely of the squad to throw himself into a tackle. Unfortunately, his physical playing style never meshed with the larger identity of the squad, as his physical presence usually came at the expense of the more technical aspects of the game like ball progression. Now, with Jude Bellingham and Mahmoud Dahoud in midfield, Delaney looks unlikely to get significant minutes at the Westfalenstadion.

Hopefully, Delaney can get more playing time at Sevilla and can help them make a run either at the La Liga title, or maybe for another deep run in the Champions League. If he does end up leaving, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
