Within hours of the official announcement of Jadon Sancho’s transfer to Manchester United, word broke that Borussia Dortmund is already in the final stages of signing his successor: versatile PSV attacker Donyell Malen. According to Fabrizio Romano, Dortmund has successfully negotiated personal terms with Malen’s agent, Mino Raiola, and is in the process of hammering out the final details between the clubs.

Reports suggest that Dortmund will pay a transfer fee of €30 million for the budding star.

Malen (22) has attracted great interest across Europe with his success in the Netherlands. A product of Ajax’s famed youth academy, he joined Arsenal in 2015 before leaving for PSV in 2017 to secure playing time. His rise in the Netherlands has been steady: a total of 11 goals and 5 assists in the 2018/19 season, 17 goals and 9 assists in 2019/20, and last season, 2020/21, he exploded for a whopping 27 goals and 10 assists.

Dortmund, where he would receive ample opportunity to play and develop in a more challenging league, is a logical destination for a player of his talents and pragmatic approach to his career.
