Good morning, everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
The preseason friendlies continued this week. Borussia Dortmund fielded a mostly junior squad against VFL Bochum, they’re friendly rivals from down the road, and in a somewhat surprising fashion were resoundingly beaten by the score of 3-1. Is this anything to freak out over? Not particularly. Gregor Kobel wasn’t in goal for any of the goals conceded, and the first team attackers who did play created some decent chances. If BVB had fielded something close to their first team then I might be more inclined to worry, but as of now I’m not.
Rumor: BVB Interested in Marcus Thuram
According to l’Équipe, Borussia Dortmund, are interested in purchasing from Borussia Monchengladbach the French Winger Marcus Thuram, for about €25 million. Marco Rose, Thuram’s former manager, wants his former player, who thrived during the 2019-20 season in Rose’s system.
We spoke about this quite a bit on Slack, and one of our writers suggested that leaking this rumor could be an attempt by BVB to bring the price for Donyell Malen down. After all, according to RN, Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven are going back and forth over the price, and it sounds like BVB are trying to lower it as much as possible.
I like Thuram and I think he would be a great acquisition, but I really can’t see Dortmund buying him AND Malen, especially if the club is going to add some depth at center back.
To get you excited for the season, I shall end with this:
