The Daily Bee: Netherlands & Portugal Eliminated

And Sebastian Kehl confirmed as BVB’s next Sporting Director

Good Morning Fear The Wall

The Euros have threatened an upset or two, but until the weekend it hadn’t quite delivered any yet. Germany looked like they might be on their way out of the tournament, losing to Hungary in the final match of the group stages, but they found a way to level the game and make it to the knockouts. Italy briefly looked like they might slip up against Austria, before they found a winner in extra time. But it was the Netherlands that became the first heavyweight to fall, losing 2-0 to Czech Republic. Followed by Portugal losing 1-0 to Belgium, after a lovely striker from Thorgan Hazard. The latter was less of an upset, but the reigning champions are definitely one of the heavyweights, so it’s a big deal to see them knocked out.

It’s currently 1-1 at half time in Croatia vs Spain, in a game that produced this peach of an own goal:

Sebastian Kehl to Succeed Michael Zorc

It has been rumored for some time, but it has now been confirmed that Sebastian Kehl will take over from Michael Zorc as Borussia Dortmund’s Sporting Director. He will take the role next summer, as Zorc steps away from a club that he has had an incredible impact on over the years.
