Goalkeeper Marwin Hitz will miss the rest of the Bundesliga season, after suffering an injury to his knee cap in yesterday’s league match between Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Late in the first half of BVB’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, Hitz went to secure a high ball in the area and landed awkwardly after brushing knees with Manuel Akanji. While he finished the remainder of the first half after receiving treatment, Edin Terzic substituted in Roman Burki was for the rest of the match. Hitz joins Marcel Schmelzer, Axel Witsel, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Mateu Morey, and Youssoufa Moukoko on the injured list. U23 goalkeeper Luca Unbehaun will most likely be promoted full-time to the senior team

Previously, Hitz had taken over for an injured Roman Burki in late January and coach Edin Terzic stuck with the Swiss veteran even after Burki returned to the squad from his own knee injury. Hitz has a much bigger frame than his fellow countryman Burki which helps occasionally for high balls into the box, and Hitz seems to be less erratic between the sticks which helped to keep 7 clean sheets in his 16 starts according to fbref.com. However, Burki has a much greater upside with better reflexes and an ability to come out of the box to close off angles which is something Hitz cannot offer. Will Burki be mentally prepared to turn around his season just in time to win silverware and secure a top four finish?
