The Daily Bee: England’s Euro 2020 Squad Announced

BVB’s England stars are (almost) on the plane!

Good Morning Fear The Wall!

Gareth Southgate has announced a provisional 33-man squad for England’s Euro 2020 campaign, which will be whittled down to 26 next week. Borussia Dortmund’s two English players, Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho, have been included, and I’d be surprised if either were cut from the final squad.

Elsewhere, the biggest news is that Southampton’s captain James Ward-Prowse makes the squad! It’s not really the biggest news, but I don’t care. Take the world’s greatest set-piece specialist to the Euros and let him ping balls at Harry Maguire’s massive slab of a head. UP. THE. SCUM!

Anyway, I think this is a really good squad, and I’d argue it’s the second best in the tournament (behind France), but it’s also an England team, and quality does not matter when you are going to crumble into a billion pieces at the first signs of a mediocre team playing for a draw. It’s coming home, but only because the final is going to be played in England, so by definition it is coming home. Right before it crosses the channel with the eventual champions, France.

Goalkeepers Goalkeepers Goalkeepers

As the season draws to a close, we’ve all got to find ways to entertain ourselves, and what better way than to start following the transfer market intensely? Wijnaldum is off to Barcelona (having rejected Bayern Munich), Tottenham are interested in Roberto Martinez, and we have some goalkeeper updates!

Just one day after winning Ligue 1 with Lille, BVB target Mike Maignan was off to Italy to finalize a move to AC Milan.

It’s a shame that Maignan is off the table, because I think he was one of the best goalkeepers that BVB have been linked to. Especially compared to the name receiving most attention lately, Gregor Kobel.

But we might be in luck. Apparently Kobel is attracting interest from Tottenham.

Fingers crossed Tottenham pull the trigger, and we’re forced to find an alternative like, oh I don’t know... Alphonse Areola?
