The Daily Bee: It’s Cup Final Day!

BVB have the chance to win (meaningful) silverware for the first time since 2017

Good Morning Fear The Wall!

Hopefully your excitement is building for the DFB-Pokal final later today. The Olympiastadion is looking good (or as good as it can look without fans).

If Borussia Dortmund win later today, this would only be the second time I’ve seen one of my teams (not including national teams) lift a major trophy. The first time was BVB’s last DFB-Pokal victory! Very exciting.

BVB have a reasonably sound bill of health, which is a nice surprise in the midst of this chaotic season. RB Leipzig are pretty healthy too, however Tyler Adams is out through injury, and Angelino has been left out of the squad for what appears to be attitude problems?

Champions League Final Moved to Portugal

The Champions League final was supposed to be in Istanbul this season, but with Turkey going into lockdown, and the final being contested between two English teams, there was some discussion that the final might be moved to either Wembley, Villa Park, or the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Instead, they’re moving the final to... Portugal? Turkey is on the UK government’s red list, so returning from the country would be a nightmare for all involved, but there are fewer restrictions on travel to and from Portugal, so it will certainly be easier if the final is held at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao. That said, everything would be a whole lot easier if it was held in England. But UEFA were unwilling to consider the UK because the government would not agree to the number of exemptions from quarantine that they wanted.

Personally I’d have liked to see it moved to Villa Park. Birmingham is a good neutral mid-point between Manchester and London, and I love Villa Park. Plus I might have been able to get tickets!
