Some poor guy has been named Schalke’s head coach. I suppose for the purposes of journalistic rigor, I should report that his name is Dimitrios Grammozis. And he looks absolutely thrilled to be jumping on board.
Welcome to Schalke, Dimitrios #Grammozis!

Grammozis is a newcomer to the coaching scene. He has no top-flight Bundesliga experience, his only pervious head coaching job being a year he spent with Darmstadt. I suppose it could be said that he did a decent job. A year after he took over mid-season for a flailing Darmstadt, he took them all the way up to 5th in the 2. Bundesliga.
Is he a promising coach? Potentially. Does he have a shot at turning Schalke’s season around? Unlikely. If Schalke were to double their point total so far this season, they would still be in the relegation zone. 538 has them at a 99% chance to be relegated; it’s safe to say that barring one of the biggest miracles in footballing history, Grammozis won’t be able to save Schalke. What he may do instead is be a stabilizing presence that allows Schalke to begin to rebuild next season in the 2. Bundesliga.
Other than this, it’s a slow news day. So instead, enjoy this filler lifted from BVB’s social media:

If you could sign either Haaland or Sancho to a 10-year extension at an affordable salary, who would you choose?
