Borussia Dortmund have drawn Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Arguably the toughest opponent Borussia Dortmund could have drawn, Manchester City have reclaimed their seat at the top of English football this year. Well on their way to winning the Premier League, City hold a 14-point lead over rivals Manchester United in second place. They’ve dominated in the Champions League as well. To get to this point, Manchester City had to first win a fairly easy group stage, with Porto and Olympique Marseille as their hardiest opponents, before dispatching Borussia Mönchengladbach in the round of 16.
It’s hard to look at City’s record and see them anything other than a major threat. But like any other team they have their weaknesses, and as their recent 2-0 defeat in the Manchester Derby demonstrates, they’re not invulnerable. Borussia Dortmund can win this, but it won’t be easy.

Unusually for UEFA, they also announced the draw for the semifinal, so we already know who BVB would face in the event that our favorite club managed to defeat Manchester City. To get to the final, Dortmund would have to face whoever wins between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
UPDATE: The dates for both fixtures have been announced. Manchester City’s “home” fixture, regardless of where it’s played, will be on Tuesday, April 6th. The return leg will be played on Wednesday, April 14th.
