Baby Bee Update: A Whole Lotta Nothing

Can I get that Oprah meme with “your game is canceled”?

Welcome to Fear The Wall’s weekly update on the kids. This will include updates to Borussia Dortmund’s U17, U19, and U23 teams. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Borussia Dortmund U17

B-Junioren Bundesliga West

Are they playing games? No. Are they signing players? Yes!

BVB U17 acquired a new kid earlier this week:

Julian Rijkhoff is a 16-year-old from Ajax Amsterdam. He will train with and play games for the U17 squad. Rijkhoff has been described as a “killer in front of the net”, which sounds fun.

The B-Junioren Bundesliga remains on hold.

Borussia Dortmund U19

U-19 Bundesliga West

No news is good news. That’s how the saying goes, eh?

Well anyway, the U-19 Bundesliga is still on hold. The UEFA Youth League, on the other hand, is still on course to hold games in early March. The U19s are slated to travel to Italy for their matchup, which would avoid the whole “international clubs traveling into Germany” mess. Fun fact: there are five (5) Germany – Italy matchups in the Youth League.

Borussia Dortmund II (U23)

Regionalliga West

All the excitement for this weekend’s match built up for naught. The Regionalliga Topspiel between Borussia Dortmund II and Rot-Weiss Essen has been canceled. No make-up date has been announced yet.

Essen won a thrilling extra time match against Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal. This win came with consequences though. The pitch suffered massively under those 120 minutes and the subsequent heavy rain. The grounds crew deemed the pitch unplayable, thus canceling the weekend match.

Good news though: the U23s will remain at the top of the league standings for another weekend!

Looking Ahead

Borussia Dortmund U19

The next (and only) game scheduled for the U19s is the UEFA Youth League Round of 64 match. It will be played at Juventus Turin on either March 2nd or 3rd.

Borussia Dortmund II

The U23s next game is scheduled for February 14th at home against SC Wiedenbrück. How do they match up?

Well, the Dortmund II squad sits in first place with 56 points (17W-5D-1L) and a goal differential of +46 (62:16). Wiedenbrück currently sits in 13th place with 26 points (5W-11D-6L) and a goal differential of -2 (29:31). They have a mid-week game, so a good chance they will come into the Dortmund game tired.

I’m not making any predictions on outcomes because I’m ridiculously superstitious and am not jinxing it, under any circumstance. But I think we all know how this game should go.
