Welcome to Fear The Wall’s weekly update on the kids. This will include updates to Borussia Dortmund’s U17, U19, and U23 teams. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Borussia Dortmund U17
B-Junioren Bundesliga West
Technically, there are games still scheduled in March, but due to the ever-extending lockdown, they keep getting canceled. So, let’s go with the B-Junioren Bundesliga is on hold.
However, they did get a new kid for next season! The 16-year-old left back Tom Rothe comes from the U17 of St. Pauli. He is quite tall (6’3”), but still has good tempo and dynamic.

Borussia Dortmund U19
U-19 Bundesliga West, DFB-Junioren Pokal
UEFA made a smart decision and canceled the UEFA Youth League competition due to travel issues with the ongoing pandemic.
Additionally, the U-19 Bundesliga is in the same position as the B-Junioren Bundesliga. Not canceled, but also not happening (a real Schrödinger’s cat situation here).
However, the U19 finally had some game action though, as two friendlies were able to be played on the road (Dortmund regulations are preventing home games at the moment). The U19 faced off against the Kickers Offenbach U19 on February 17th. BVB U19 won 4-0 thanks to a goal from Isaak Nwachukwo (68’) and a Jamie Bynoe-Gittens hattrick (5’, 48’, 55’). The starting line-up for this match was:

Substituted on at the half were Silas Ostrzinski, Wesley Heimann, Isaak Nwachukwu, and Kamal Bafounta Ortega.
This marked Bafounta’s comeback! He was out for about two years after having two knee operations. Good to see the kid back! And he went straight into the starting 11 for their next friendly:

This friendly was on February 23rd against Regionalliga side SV Rödinghausen. The U19 won 3-2! Göktan Gürpüz (39’), Bradley Fink (45’), and Lion Semic (65’) had the goals for BVB U19.
Borussia Dortmund II (U23)
Regionalliga West
Taylan Duman will transfer to 1. FC Nürnberg on a free this summer. The 23-year-old transferred to Borussia Dortmund in January 2019. In 19 games so far, he has 11 goals and eight assists.
The game scheduled for February 20th at Bonner SC was canceled due to bad pitch conditions. It will be made up on March 24th.

Due to there being 21 teams in the Regionalliga, each weekend one team will have a “bye week”. This weekend was BVB II’s scheduled break. The game cancellation in the previous week, just makes it an extra-long break.
Looking Ahead
Borussia Dortmund U19
The U19s have another friendly coming up on March 2nd against Regionalliga side Rot-Weiss Oberhuasen.
Borussia Dortmund II
The U23s next game is scheduled for March 6th at newly promoted side FC Wegberg-Beeck. How do they match up?
Well, the Dortmund II squad sits in first place with 57 points (17W-6D-1L) and a goal differential of +46 (64:18). They are three points clear of second place Rot-Weiss Essen, who have one game in hand.
Wegberg-Beeck sits in 14th place with 25 points (6W-7D-12L) and a goal differential of -15 (24:39). They are winless in their last four games, having last won on January 23rd.
