The rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach, while competitive, is noticeably more friendly than the one BVB historically have with FC Schalke 04. Are we beginning see that narrative change? Over the past few years, players have been transferred back and forth between the two clubs and it has not been seen as a problem, but that may be changing According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Gladbach fans are getting angry about seeing their Coach, Marco Rose, constantly linked with a move away from Borussia-Park this summer.

It should come as no surprise, fresh off the heels of beating Dortmund, that Rose is a top candidate to take over at the Signal Iduna Park, but this time Gladbach fans are not too pleased that their manager, who has helped transform his club, would be leaving so early. We have seen Marco Reus move back to Dortmund from Gladbach in 2012, while Mahmoud Dahoud and Thorgan Hazard most recently have made the switch from Green to Black and Yellow. Matthias Ginter moved the other direction when he joined Die Fohlen back in 2017, but these moves haven’t shown any bad blood as of yet, a fact that may change.
Gladbach Sporting Director Max Eberl has been building a really strong squad and with Rose at the helm, and Gladbach have finally made it back into the UEFA Champions League this season. Borussia Monchengladbach have even qualified for the knockout rounds for the first time in club history right alongside Die Schwarzgelben. However, this isn’t the first time this season we have seen anger out of the Gladbach camp. Frustration boiled over just a few months ago when Eberl was asked about Gladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus potentially joining Bayern Munich in the summer. Our friends over at Bavarian Football Works covered that story back in November.
Never gonna give Flo up, never gonna let him down, M’Gladbach doesn’t want Neuhaus movin’: @borussia_en is not happy that star midfielder Florian Neuhaus was linked to @Bundesliga_EN rival @FCBayernUS https://t.co/JCTTALCE5Z

Rivalry Brewing?
As we can see, Borussia Monchengladbach and their supporters are starting to get very angry with links from not only players, but their Manager too. As BVB fans we know all too well how frustrating it is to have our players constantly linked to other clubs, but BVB’s priority right now is securing the best coach for the club moving into next season. If Borussia Dortmund are able to convince Rose to jump ship and pay his reported $5 Million release clause, this could be a move that sparks a really heated rivalry in the Ruhr region. With Schalke potentially going down to the 2.Bundesliga, next season may have some interesting derby battles after all.
