The Daily Bee: Felix Zwayer to Not Referee BVB Games Anymore

Following his controversial decisions in Dortmund’s game against Bayern Munich, the referee will not preside over any more BVB matches.

Good morning, Fear the Wall! Happy New Years!

No more Felix Zwayer for BVB!

I’m sure many of you will be broken up to hear this, but according to the Bundesliga’s top referee Lutz Michael Fröhlich, Felix Zwayer will not referee any more games for Borussia Dortmund this season. This is, of course, in response to his very controversial decisions during Der Klassiker, and the media firestorm caused by Jude Bellingham and the rest of the BVB squad’s comments following the game.

Even though I defended Zwayer’s decisions somewhat, I still think this is the right decision. It’s clear that nobody in Dortmund trusts Zwayer at all, and if he does ref any BVB games in the future, it is only likely to cause more controversy. I will point out, however, that this does set a precedent of clubs and players being able to distance themselves from refs they don’t like as long as they are loud enough. This could have negative ramifications in the long run.

BVB to Zakaria not yet a done deal

We’ve reported over the last few weeks that Borussia Dortmund are one of the lead clubs chasing after Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. Even though BVB are one of the most likely clubs given manager Marco Rose’s relationship with Zakaria, this doesn’t mean the transfer is a done deal. According to Fabrizio Romano, several other big clubs around Europe including Bayern Munich and Barcelona are interested in his services.

If BVB would be able to snatch him up with a January transfer, even for a significant fee, it would be worth it. Zakaria is a top winger and fit very well into Marco Rose’s system, so he would be just what Dortmund need to go out and win the Europa League.

Do you agree with me that the decision not to have Zwayer referee BVB games could have negative consequences in the future?
