Good morning, everyone.
The football/transfer market gods must have sensed that we Borussia Dortmund fans were getting a little too comfortable with Erling Haaland. A rumor emerged a few weeks ago that Haaland might even stay past the end of this season. Our hubris at such a thought clearly angered them, because in the past week the fervor surrounding Haaland has spiked dramatically. It all started when the perpetually wheeling-and-dealing agent Mino Raiola gave a statement that may have been less helpful than he first though:
Mino Raiola (#Haaland’s agent):

"Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City: These are the BIG clubs he can go to... There is a big chance he will leave this summer."

Raiola listed these four clubs —and these four clubs only— as Haaland’s possible destinations. Of course, this leaves out some big clubs with plenty of resources: Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Chelsea, to name a few. Raiola must have realized that making such a definitive statement was artificially restricting the market for his client, and therefore potentially limiting his client’s, and his own, fees as a result. So a few days later he corrected his statement:
When you realize you accidentally cut at least 5 clubs out of a potential bidding war for your client by yapping your mouth. pic.twitter.com/N9hYiB6qCz

This could serve as a lesson to Raiola that thinking before you speak is a good idea.
Anyway, Raiola’s statements ultimately had the desired effect, which was to get Haaland’s name back in the transfer zeitgeist. Clubs linked to him include Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and more. Whether the move is actually possible for all of these clubs is less clear. For instance, it seems that Bayern Munich would most likely only be able to afford Haaland if they sold Lewandowski this summer, and Barcelona would only be able to buy him if they stumbled upon more than a few leprechauns’ worth of pots of gold. In any case, pretty much every single club listed above would be willing to give an arm and a leg to sign Haaland.
