Man of the Match Poll: Julian Brandt Fires Home the Winner as Borussia Dortmund Beat Augsburg 2-1

BVB don’t like to let us relax.

Borussia Dortmund love conceding goals, and apparently do not like scoring them. They claimed a 2-1 victory over Augsburg today, in a game that ended up being way closer than it really should have been. A Rapha Guerreiro penalty was cancelled out by a very silly Zeqiri goal that had no business being scored, but a lovely finish by Julian Brandt got Dortmund’s noses in front just after the second half started.

BVB had a ton of chances to put the game away in the second half, but they struggled to finish things off. Luckily, though, they held on to their lead, and we can forget that it ever happened. That’s two tight wins in one week... I look forward to Erling Haaland’s return from injury.

Here’s some nominations for Man of the Match:

Julian Brandt

Brandt’s goal was really enjoyable, but I think his overall game was perhaps the biggest highlight. He was contributing plenty out of possession, and he was a solid part of the overall buildup. Could have had an assist if Reus’s finishing was just a little better late in the game.

Marco Reus

Reus absolutely should have had a goal today. He was denied by the crossbar and saw another really nice chance sail over the bar. However, while his finishing was below par, I thought the rest of his game was really good. He was making the offense tick, and creating plenty of chances. Just wish he had buried one as well!

Marius Wolf

Marius Wolf’s game isn’t the most refined in the BVB squad, but he brings an industrious approach to the game that is always more than welcome. He played on both flanks in today’s game, and I thought he handled his duties pretty well. Got a lot of time for a utility player like Wolf. It will be hard for him to carve out a starting role, but he’ll always be useful.

Jude Bellingham

Jude continues to be good, and continues to contribute so much to this team.
