Borussia Dortmund fans rejoiced with the return of league play after the international break. There were many satisfactory performances on display in BVB’s home match against FSV Mainz 05, but who among them Marco Rose’d (come on, work with me here) to the top? Check out our noms for MOTM!
Marco Reus
The Skipper’s fine form continues to deliver and the on-pitch chemistry he has with Julian Brandt and Thomas Meunier was on grand display today as Reus scored the early opening goal for the home side. An early goal always does well for the confidence of the squad Reus turned in a consistent and purposeful performance.
Erling Haaland
Fans and players alike were anxious for this young man’s return and Haaland did not disappoint. Haaland played hungrily and he repeatedly put himself in the box to create chances. His actions led to the penalty and goal 1 of 2 for Mr. Haaland. Goal 2 of 2 came late allowing everyone to collectively cheer and breathe easier as the win was all but guaranteed.
Jude Bellingham
Bellingham is a passionate player and is definitely the Mr. Congeniality of today’s match. His aggressiveness made him a force every time he was engaged in play both offensively and defensively. His diligence and efforts paid off as he gained possession from Mainz and provided a lovely assist to Haaland for the third goal.
Thomas Meunier
Meunier sent cross after cross after cross into the box and while they weren’t always stellar with their accuracy, he created chance after chance and this is how play results in goals! Look at his role in the build-up to Reus’s opening goal. Meunier turned in another noteworthy performance that exemplifies his building confidence this season.
