Borussia Dortmund have received a big boost ahead of their weekend game against Mainz, with Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji being given the all-clear for selection, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
Haaland is said to have recovered from the bruising on his thigh, but the final decision as to whether he will play will be made later in the week. Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji is said to be ready to go, despite picking up a knock while on duty with Switzerland this week. Akanji picked up an adductor injury which forced him to return to Dortmund for treatment, but it appears that the injury isn’t serious, and he’ll be good to go come the weekend.
While there’s good news about Haaland and Akanji, it seems that Gio Reyna, Raphael Guerreiro, and Youssoufa Moukoko will all be unavilable. Reyna is recovering from a muscle injury that he picked up earlier in the season, while Guerreiro and Moukoko were hurt while on international duties, and all three will need a little longer before they’re ready to return to action.
As much as it would have been nice to have Reyna, Guerreiro, and Moukoko available, Haaland and Akanji are much more important parts of the BVB squad. Both players have been two of Dortmund’s best performers so far this season, and prospects for the weekend look significantly brighter if both of them are available.
