Welcome to FTW’s weekly recap of the performances of Borussia Dortmund’s loanees at their respective clubs. BVB currently has 5 players out on loan, whose loans all end on June 30, 2021. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Leonardo Balerdi (CB)

Olympique Marseille (Ligue 1)

Marseille hosted Montpellier HSC in a traditional “six-point game”, which they won 3-1, on January 6. Balerdi sat on the bench for what was the third game in a row.

Balerdi has 1 goal and 2 yellow cards in 6 Ligue 1 appearances (5 starts).

Sergio Gómez (AM)

SD Huesca (La Liga)

Huesca unsurprisingly lost to FC Barcelona 1-0 on January 3. Gómez got a rare start and played 72 minutes. He had 0 shots, but was credited with 1 shot-creating action. He drew 2 fouls.

Gómez still has 0 points in his 11 La Liga appearances (2 starts).

Immanuel Pherai (AM)

PEC Zwolle (Eredivisie)

The Eredivisie remains in their winter break and thus PEC Zwolle did not play any games this week.

Jeremy Toljan (RB)

US Sassuolo (Serie A)

Sassuolo began their year on January 3 by taking a trip to Atalanta Bergamo where they were outscored 5-1. Toljan was on the bench for the second match in a row.

On January 6 in their second game of the week, Sassuolo hosted Genoa CFC and pulled off a 2-1 win. The home team dominated in all statistics and probably deserved to win by an even greater margin. Toljan, however, did not take part in any of this, as he was benched again.

To start the season, Toljan had been the first choice at right back and only missed one game (December 6), due to COVID-19. It is unclear why he has been riding the bench since.

Toljan will remain at 0 points and 1 yellow card in his 8 Serie A appearances (8 starts).

Marius Wolf (RW)

1. FC Köln (Bundesliga)

Köln lost 1-0 to FC Augsburg when the Bundesliga returned on Saturday, January 2. Wolf played the full 90 and had 4 shots (1 on target) and 2 shot-creating actions. He hit the outside of the net in the final minutes of the match, with Köln trailing 1-0. Wolf played a rough game with 3 tackles, committing 4 fouls, and drawing 5 fouls.

He remains at 1 assist and 2 yellow cards in 12 Bundesliga appearances (11 starts).
