Sevilla Sign Papu Gomez
Sevilla FC, Borussia Dortmund’s opponent in the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 fixtures, have signed Atalanta captain Papu Gomez for a scant €5 million, plus an extra €2 million in incentives, according to The Guardian.

Why did Atalanta’s captain suddenly demand a transfer, Nick? Well, it all started in Atalanta’s Champions League match against Midtjylland in December. He and manager Gian Piero Gasperini got into an argument regarding his positioning on the pitch, and it got so heated that Papu refused to re-enter the pitch at the start of the second half. Football Italia stated that following the final Champions League group stage match against Ajax, the relationship between Gomez and Gasparini “broke down completely,” and the Argentine player demanded a transfer soon after.
Sevilla, who currently sit fourth in La Liga, just became that much more difficult of an opponent for Dortmund in the upcoming Champions League fixture next month. They advanced easily from a Champions League group that featured Chelsea, Krasnodar and Rennes, and they could be one of the dark horse picks to make a Champions League run.
