Good morning, Fear the Wall!
It’s been less than a month since Paris Saint-Germain sacked Thomas Tuchel, the former Borussia Dortmund manager, and he’s already found new work. Earlier this morning, Chelsea FC announced that they had sacked manager Frank Lampard, and almost immediately, pundits like Fabrizio Romano and Max Bielefeld of Sky.de began reporting that Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea was imminent.
Ex-PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is the favourite to replace Frank Lampard at Chelsea, per @FabrizioRomano https://t.co/AGG8T7LFTQ

Frank Lampard’s departure has been a long time coming. Although he ended his tenure with a 3-1 victory in the FA Cup against Luton Town yesterday, Chelsea have been vastly disappointing in a season in which many expected them to compete for the title. Although they qualified for the Champions League Round of 16, they currently sit at ninth in the league. They probably would have fired Lampard sooner, but it seems now that they were waiting to make sure they could acquire Tuchel before pulling the trigger.
Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea has potential to either be spectacular, or to fail spectacularly. As his unceremonious exits at Borussia Dortmund and PSG demonstrate, his abrasive personality tends to cause friction between himself, upper management, and his players. It will be interesting to see how his relationship with Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich plays out. Two notoriously disagreeable people being forced to work together seems like a recipe for disaster. On the bright side, Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea means he will reunite with Christian Pulisic, who had his breakout season during Tuchel’s final season in Dortmund in 2016-17.
