Good morning, Fear the Wall!

Of all of Borussia Dortmund’s signings in the summer of 2020, Reinier Jesus was probably the player with the widest variance of potential performance. Upon his arrival, I would not have been surprised if he had played his way into the starting XI, or if he had spent his entire loan spell on the bench. As the season wore on, and Reinier only made scant appearances as a substitute, it became clear that he probably wasn’t going to play his way into the squad. Over the following months, Reinier and his agent have expressed growing concern for his lack of playing time. When Reinier agreed to join BVB on loan, he did so hoping to get significant minutes and continue his player development, so it’s natural that he’s upset with his lack of playing time.

According to Goal.com, even though Real Madrid are currently considering recalling Reinier from his loan spell and sending him to Real Valladolid, Borussia Dortmund currently don’t have any intentions of letting him go easily. According to Michael Zorc, BVB have a lot of competition for a limited number of attacking positions, and Dortmund are happy to keep Reinier as a depth option.

For what it’s worth, BVB manager Edin Terzic has praised Reinier’s work ethic, claiming he gives 100% in training. Terzic is also confident that Reinier’s hard work will eventually pay off with more game time:
