Good morning Fear the Wall!

I have some exciting news! Last week, Paul Johnson, Deputy Editor here at FTW, “One of our Own”, “The Southampton Statistician”, “The Danny Ings of Data Analytics”, made an appearance on the Yellow Wall Podcast alongside Stefan Buczko and Adam Darowski to discuss the work he did building data visualizations for Steve’s recent article on what went wrong for Lucien Favre. Other topics discussed include some comments Mats Hummels made to the media about Thomas Tuchel, the re-emergence of Manuel Akanji, and previewing this weekend’s match against RB Leipzig. Take a listen here:

I have it on good authority that this has become the single most downloaded podcast episode of all time, and that Paul has been nominated for several Pulitzers and an Emmy award.

In all seriousness, please give it a listen, and subscribe to YWP if you haven’t already. They’re the best source for BVB news around, much better than the low-effort schlock we put out once per quarter.

Marc Bartra and Sokratis May Reunite at Real Betis

It’s always fun to check in on Borussia Dortmund alumni, especially when they reunite at other clubs. Over the past few weeks, there has been rampant speculation about where Sokratis, the former BVB center back who has fell out of favor at Arsenal, will end up. Yesterday, Estadio Deportivo reported that Real Betis, home of fellow Dortmund alumnus Marc Bartra, may be interested in signing Sokratis.

I’m not a La Liga fan, but if Betis did sign another former BVB player, it may be enough to get me to tune into a few matches. Bartra and Sokratis were both excellent players and left Dortmund on generally good terms, so it would be pleasing to see them succeed in their new roles.
