Good morning, Fear The Wall!

Rapha’s Back!

Our favorite Portuguese player Rapha Guerriero has returned to training after being sidelined by a minor muscle injury:

With all the injuries Dortmund have at the moment, especially at the left back position, it is incredibly encouraging to see Rapha training again. It’s probably too much to expect him to be placed directly into the starting XI after returning, but I can see him making the bench for Saturday’s match against Augsburg and getting some late minutes (depending on how the match is going). Hell, a start against Bayern in the SuperCup isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Sebastian Kehl Contract Extended

According to an article in Kicker, Sebastian Kehl has had his contract extended to 2022. The article also states former BVB legend and current Director of Player Licensing also stated that he is preparring to succeed BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc during that time.

“For me it is about continuing on the path, taking on more responsibility,” emphasized Kehl during the talk “19:09” of the “Ruhr Nachrichten”. The 31-time national player is already looking over the shoulder of the manager icon Zorc at his work: “I look at how he makes decisions and how he handles transfers. His network is impressive.” Kehl has long been involved in all important decisions; different perspectives would help “that we become better as a club. We benefit from each other.”

BVB hierarchy must really like what Kehl brings to the table if they are already tabbing him as Zorc’s heir. Zorc has been in the position of sporting director for over 30 years, and has done a lot to help transform BVB into a global sporting power and international brand. Hopefully Kehl can learn as much as he can and hit the ground running once the switch is made in two years.
