The first weekend of the 2020-21 Bundesliga season came and went. Bayern kicked off the season with an eye-opening 8-0 win over Schalke, as Bayern looks to make it nine consecutive Bundesliga titles. Meanwhile, Schalke look absolutely abysmal and are prime candidates for relegation, continuing their descent as financial problems look to turn a once-great club into a joke.
Other notable results from Saturday were Hertha Berlin winning 4-1 over Werder Bremen, who look to battle relegation once again after surviving the Promotion/Relegation Playoff against Heidenheim. Arminia Bielefeld nabbed their first Bundesliga points in a 1-1 draw with Eintract Frankfurt, while Freiburg held off newly-promoted Stuttgart for a 3-2 win, Andrej Kramaric scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 win for Hoffenheim over Koln, including the winner in the 92’, and Augsburg scored a 3-1 win over Union Berlin.
On Sunday, Leipzig jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead over Mainz before winning 3-1, and Wolfsburg and Leverkusen played to a 0-0 draw for the first goalless draw of the season.
Hazard Injury
Just 15 minutes into Saturday’s match, Thorgan Hazard pulled up lame and had to be escorted off the pitch for an injury. Scans and tests have revealed he has suffered a mild hamstring strain and will be out for a couple of weeks:

Dortmund have always struggled to stay healthy in recent years, and that is definitely the case to the start of the 2020-21 season. The right back depth has been hit especially hard by the injury bug, with Rapha, Schmelzer, Morey and now Hazard going down with various ailments. Felix Passlack came on for Hazard and played admirably after not seeing the field for Dortmund in three years.
Get well soon, Thorgan!
