The first BVB game of the season is in the books. We took out DFB Pokal first round game vs MSV Duisburg 5-0. The BVB goal scorers were Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, Thorgan Hazard, Giovanni Reyna and Marco Reus.

The first half was all BVB. The game started a little uninspired from our side. We had all the possession but we wasted it on some measly crosses into the box. The momentum started going out way thanks to a pen against Duisberg due to a handball. Jadon Sancho took the pen and scored his first goal for the team this season. After that goal Duisburg looked deflated. Our second goal came from our other young Englishman Jude Bellingham. Jude got a back heel from Hazard and finished it cleanly. This was his first goal for BVB after joining us over the summer. He looked great in his 45 mins of play this game and this goal was the icing on the cake. Our third goal came after Dominic Volkmer tackled Haaland from behind as the last man, earning him a red card and us a free kick. Hazard scored directly from the spot on the freekick. The first half went back and forth after the third goal and red card but Duisburg just couldn’t get anything working and the half ended 3-0.

The second half started as the first one ended. Despite some pushing from Duisburg, BVB scored a 4th at the 50’ mark. The goal was off a free kick from Giovanni Reyna. Our next goal was definitely a funny one. Reus came on for Haaland and about 35 seconds later he scored with his first few touches. The rest of the half was dull. BVB again had most of the possession and just took their time making chances and clearing the ball.

Overall this was a good show for BVB. While Duisburg aren’t the strongest opposition, it is great we got a strong start before we kick off the league on Saturday. We got to see all of our new young talent get a run out and saw some very promising things. We scored two goals off free kicks which is quite amazing for a team that can go entire seasons without one free kick goal. If there is one serious takeaway Favre needs to think about this match, It is that maybe Hazard isn’t suited for LWB. While he was, for me, our MOTM he looked unconformable taking on so much defensive responsibility. He may just need time to settle, this is what Favre will have to decide before our match vs BMG.

So how do you feel about the game today?
