Rangnick to Milan is Cancelled

AC Milan have turned back on their decision to hire Ralf Rangnick, RB Leipzig’s sporting director and former coach, and instead have chosen to extend Stefano Pioli, who took the club’s managerial role back in October. Ever since Serie A returned, AC Milan have been one of the best teams in Italy. CEO Ivan Gazidis and Sporting Director Paolo Maldini have both backed Pioli for the role as AC Milan manager. It’s similar to Ole Gunnar Solskaer’s situation at Manchester United. While Pioli was originally brought in to see out the end of the season, the club has been so successful in his tenure that they’ve decided to give him a longer leash.

There is a big risk to this decision. Rangnick is a proven talent whose succcess with RB Leipzig is unquestionable. Pioli has had a moderate career bouncing around various Italian clubs, but hasn’t found any real success yet. There are rumors that Rangnick wanted total control of the club’s sporting decisions, and that Gazidis and Maldini wouldn’t relent to his demands.
