Good morning, Fear the Wall.

There’s no corny intro from me today. Let’s get right into our lead story:

A BVB Women’s Team?

Way back in the early days of Fear the Wall, while I was still just a lowly commenter, Marco Lange published an article titled “Dortmund, we need to talk.” The article made the case that several other big name Bundesliga clubs like Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, and Werder Bremen have successful women’s soccer teams, and that it was very important for Borussia Dortmund’s image and the sport of women’s soccer itself for Borussia Dortmund to finally have a women’s team of its own.

Dortmund fans at the Westfalenstadion clearly feel the same way, and have been making their feelings known for some time:

According to an article in Deutsche Welle, BVB have taken a first step towards developing a women’s team by releasing a survey to the fan base. It was basically to try to gauge interest among the fans, not only about whether or not BVB should build a women’s team, but also whether or not they should buy an existing club out or start a new one from scratch. Even for a club with the financial resources of Borussia Dortmund, it’s not easy to build a successful club out of thin air. Even if BVB succeed in building a women’s team, expectations for success would likely have to be tempered at first, especially considering how the likes of Wolfsburg and Bayern have long been established in the Frauen Bundesliga.

Thomas Meunier to Dortmund?

The Belgian right back has long been rumored to be a primary target for Borussia Dortmund, and it looks like this transfer is gaining steam. Bild have reported that BVB are very close to signing Meunier, and that they will announce the transfer before the end of the season. I would take this with a grain of salt until a source that’s a bit more trustworthy reports this, because Sky Sports announced the exact same thing, but for Tottenham Hotspur as the destination instead of BVB:

Assuming you’re interested in a BVB women’s team, how would you go about building it? Would you want to start from scratch or buy up an existing team?
