Bundelsiga is returning and so is the Daily Bee. Sorry I’ve let this turn into the occasional bee during the break but we are back baby!

  • Injury woes

It’s been two months since BVB has played a match. You’d think that heading into our derby vs Schalke this weekend as the Bundesliga resumes, we’d have a healthy squad. Unfortunately so far our reported injuries for this weekends game are many. Axel Witsel, Marco Reus, Nico Schulz, Emre Can, and Dan-Axel Zagadou are all unlikely to play. That puts us at a huge disadvantage to start. Add that with us playing at home with no fans and this derby is up in the air. Even with a healthy squad this years BVB team were a toss up in quality week to week. Well... at least we will have some players on the field Saturday.

The midfield injuries will be a great opportunity for young American Gio Reyna to get a start. With the Bundesliga being one of the only sports broadcast this weekend, many Americans will be tuning in. Reyna putting on a show will increase BVB’s profile in the states. Are we ready for Pulisic Mania 2?

  • Referee picked for derby

The referee has been picked for our derby this weekend. The ref announcement came later then usual due to concerns about safety amidst the pandemic but it is now official Deniz Aytekin will be the ref Saturday. This is great for the quality of the match as he is one of the DFB’s most accomplished refs, currently leading all DFB refs in UCL games as head ref. Lucky for us as he was apparently picked because he lives close to Dortmund. As with all players he will have to stay in a hotel before and after the game and be tested before and after. I can’t imagine this game will get as testy as usual under the current circumstances, but it is positive we have a good ref to control the match anyways.

Daily Buzz: What do you think the lineup will be Saturday?
