In the Battle of the Borussia’s its BVB that comes out on top. Our third win vs BMG this season ended 2-1. The BVB goals were from Hazard and Hakimi. We now sit 2nd in the table with 51 points.
The first half was a gritty back and forth between BMG and BVB. Hazard opened the scoring on a incredible long shot in the 8th minute. After the goal BVB kept it goalless but the rest of the half was dicey. BMG had some big chances that Burki saved but even more notable was the physical play. Both WItsel and Zagadou got yellow cards in the last 5 minutes. Since the second half was even more physicalwe were lucky these these cards wouldn’t come into play.
The second half started of poorly for BVB. The team let BMG control the game just as they had for most of the first half. We payed for it as Stindl put a set piece goal behind us to make it 1-1 in the 50th minute. Zagadou probably deserves the lions share of the blame for the goal. Luckily we managed to keep BMG to that 1 goal. Our second goal will probably leave a lot of BMG fans feeling ripped off. After Haaland went down in the midfield some Gladbach plays figured BVB would kick the ball out, Instead Hakimi got the ball and put it past the keeper perfectly. Guess Marco Rose needs to teach his players to play to the whistle. Not much more happened the rest of the half aside from a little brawl in the 76th minute. Sancho and Bensenaini got into a tussle that cleared both benches as Favre and co. tried to separate the sides. Both players earned a yellow for their troubles. It was nice to see our team have some fight in them, especially old man Favre.
Overall a decent win for BVB. While we did not look in control of the game a win away to tough opened is a great sign for this team. With 21 points through 8 games BVB are now back in the title race. Hazard and Hummels were probably our best two players. Burki kept us in the game with two massive saves. Witsel and Brandt both didn’t play too great and Zagadou was poor.
On to Paris! How do you feel we played today?
