  • Debut for Can - Guerreiro out

Lucien Favre announced that every player - with the exception of Thomas Delaney - would be available for today’s match against Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup. However, as WAZ first reported yesterday, Raphael Guerreiro did not make the trip to Bremen and will not play in the round of sixteen. In addition, Favre will likely rotate a a few players, Dan-Axel Zagadou might get his first start after his injury.

BVB’s new midfielder/centre-back Emre Can also traveled with the team and will probably be in the matchday squad today and give his debut for the black and yellows.

Emre Can played for Jürgen Klopp in Liverpool until he decided to not extend his contract with the Reds in 2018 and leave for Juventus on a free transfer. Nevertheless, Klopp still holds Can in high regard and thinks he is a great fit for Dortmund:

“I’m happy for BVB and Emre Can. It is a win-win situation. Emre is at a club that fits him like a glove. BVB has a top player, a great, versatile footballer with an outstanding attitude. [...] In the second half of the season, I think they can achieve a lot BVB with Can and Haaland.”

  • Isak keeps scoring for Real Sociedad

Ex-BVB player Alexander Isak is on a roll for Real Sociedad. The striker has scored 9 goals in his last 10 games and has now 11 in 26 games for the Spanish side. Isak joined Real Sociedad for 6.5€ million this past summer, at the time it was already a curious decision for Dortmund to let him go. The good news for BVB is that the club still has a buy-back clause for 30€ million. It would not exactly be a profitable move for Dortmund but if Isak keeps developing then he’ll certainly be back in black and yellows at some point.
