Thorgan Hazard just cannot catch a break. Having only recently recovered from a muscle strain in his thigh, the Belgian international has suffered yet another injury, his third of the season. He came onto the pitch against Eintracht Braunschweig in the 83rd minute, and before the match was over, he was clutching his thigh again, indicating he may have aggravated his previous injury. According to BVB’s announcement on the club’s Twitter page, Hazard will need several weeks to recover.

This injury comes at a very unfortunate time for BVB. Dortmund have really struggled to score goals recently, and Hazard is one of the club’s best finishers, with a hammer of a shot, and is great at getting into dangerous areas.
With the compressed schedule, we’re seeing an extreme increase in muscle injuries across Europe. Thorgan Hazard is just the latest victim of this. It demonstrates the importance of rotation and proper squad management, something that our medical staff seems not to have learned. In hindsight, it may have been premature for Edin Terzic to bring Hazard on. Hopefully Terzic will learn from this, and take extra precautions in the future to ensure he doesn’t re-aggravate any injuries.
