Good morning, Fear The Wall!

Zagadou Still Injured

While many of the injured Borussia Dortmund players are scheduled to recover over the international break, kicker reported yesterday that Dan-Axel Zagadou will not be one of those players making a return from injury.

Zagadou is still suffering from damaged knee ligaments suffered during pre-season training in Swizerland. BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc said “With him [Zagadou], it will take a while for him,” meaning that there is still ways to go before Dan-Axel can begin fully training with the team.

With yesterday’s news of Manuel Akanji’s positive COVID-19 test, Borussia Dortmund are even thinner at central defense. Their decision to not sign a central defender at all during the window remains a legitimate point of criticism towards management. We’re one Mats Hummels or Emre Can injury away from being in real trouble along the backline.

Please get well soon, Dan-Axel!

BVB Champions League Roster Announced

As the start to the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage draws closer, Borussia Dortmund announced their 25-man group stage roster.

Borussia Dortmund 2020-21 UEFA Champions League roster

Along with the usual suspects like Sancho, Haaland, Witsel, Reus and Hummels, there are quite a couple of players from BVB II to make the squad through the B list. The B list is for players that were born after January 1999 and were eligible to play for the club for two consecutive years between their 15th birthday and the date of registration with UEFA. B-list players for Dortmund are Luca Unbehaun, Ansgar Knauff and Dominik Wanner.

One name you won’t notice among that roster is former captain and BVB lifer Marcel Schmelzer. Schmelzer, who is 32 and has seen his playing time diminish greatly over the last couple of seasons, is still dealing with recovering from a July knee operation and likely wouldn’t see much action were he to make a full recovery.

Dortmund starts their campaign for a second Champions League trophy on October 20 in Rome against Lazio.
