When you’re playing the best team in the world, you need to finish your chances.

Good morning, Fear the Wall.

I’m going to keep this brief, because we have the UEFA Champions League draw happening *checks notes* literally right now.

Marvin Hitz: “It was a Really Good Game”

In a post-match interview with Kicker following Borussia Dortmund’s defeat in the DFL-Supercup to Bayern Munich, Marvin Hitz explained his thoughts on the match and the difficulty of playing against Bayern. First and foremost, he was happy with the spirit that BVB showed in coming back from a 2-0 deficit to draw the game level. While he was disappointed with the result, he was happy with Dortmund’s effort.

It was really a good game. Especially when I look at the goals again, you have to say that there was also a bit of luck for Bayern. In the end it is extremely bitter when you come back after 2-0 and then still has a good chance. You haven’t had a chance for a long time.

While Hitz was content with Borussia Dortmund’s showing, Erling Håland still regretted not finishing a grade-A chance he had to beat Manuel Neuer one-on-one. As he pointed out, Bayern Munich finished the major chances they created, which is part of what makes them one of the most dangerous squads in the world.

For me, that’s the big difference today between the best team in the world and us right now: They take advantage of the few opportunities and win the games. I scored a goal myself, but I would have had to score a second goal. Most goalkeepers would probably not have saved the ball, but Manuel Neuer did it.

Erling Håland’s goal was terrific, but he really should have scored against Manuel Neuer. Thomas Meunier also had a wonderful chance that he skied over the bar. BVB will need to be much more clinical moving forward if they will have a shot at the Bundesliga title.
