Dan-Axel Zagadou is on his way back but the centre-back won’t make it in time for Friday’s Bundesliga game against 1.FC Köln. The Frenchman returned to the pitch yesterday for some light running exercises after a muscle fiber tear in his calf. Nevertheless, this week’s match comes to early for Zagadou who will likely be ready for the following week’s bout against Union Berlin. Meanwhile Lucien Favre will have to make a decision, stick with the 3-man backline even though the club currently lacks centre-backs that are in form or switch to a back four.
Borussia Dortmund had to make several “adjustments” after the horrendous 2017/18 season and Michael Zorc and Hans-Joachim Watzke were mostly succesful in rebuilding the team to assemble a squad that can be competitive. However, it looks like another busy summer is ahead of them if a new Sport Bild report is accurate.
According to the outlet several players will be allowed to leave, that list includes Mario Götze and Lukasz Piszczek - both have expiring contracts - Marcel Schmelzer, Mahmoud Dahoud, Jacob Bruun Larsen and all current players on loan, André Schürrle, Jeremy Toljan, Ömer Toprak and Sergio Gomez. BVB are also willing to listen to offers for Manuel Akanji, the Swiss centre-back has been disappointing this season and the club is probably looking for an upgrade this summer. In addition, BVB will likely let Jadon Sancho leave if their 150€ valuation is met by any club.
As possible replacements for Sancho the black and yellows are eyeing to Brazilian wingers, Everton from Gremio and Antony from FC Sao Paulo. The club has supposedly already contacted both players.
Michael Zorc will also try to hang on to Achraf Hakimi. Real Madrid are not planning with him and Dortmund are in negotiations with his agent. Dortmund’s biggest target however is 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga from Stade Rennes. The central midfielder won’t come cheap though, Sport Bild claim he will cost up to 50€ million.
