  • BVB name Champions League squad

Borussia Dortmund have nominated their squad for the Champions League and as expected there weren’t any major surprises.

Every club can nominate 25 players to their “List A”, at least two players must be goalkeepers. The players on that list can’t be changed until the knockout stage.

Here is BVB’s squad:

Roman Bürki, Marwin Hitz, Eric Oelschlägel, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Achraf Hakimi, Nico Schulz, Mats Hummels, Manuel Akanji, Leonardo Balerdi, Mateu Morey, Lukasz Piszczek, Marcel Schmelzer, Thomas Delaney, Mahmoud Dahoud, Mario Götze, Marco Reus, Raphael Guerreiro, Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard, Axel Witsel, Julian Weigl, Giovanni Reyna, Tobias Raschl, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Paco Alcacer

As you may have noticed Jadon Sancho is not among BVB’s 25 players. The club has chosen to keep him on their “List B”, that list is only for players born after January 1st 1998 that played for the club for two consecutive years. Players on the “List B” can be changed throughout the group stage. Putting Sancho on this list allowed the club to nominate Giovanni Reyna for the CL-squad.

In addition to Sancho, Luca Unbehaun, Patrick Osterhage, Manuel Pherai, Jano Baxmann and Dominik Wanner will make it onto BVB’s “List B”.

Four BVB-players could play today for their national teams.

BVB and Mario Götze were, and still are, in an awkward situation. Götze’s contract ends after this season and both sides have so far not been able to agree to an extension. Either Götze signs a new deal or Dortmund will have to sell him in January or lose him for free next summer.

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Inter were already interested in Götze this summer and are still keeping an eye on his situation going forward. The Italian side might make an offer in January or wait until next summer when they can sign him for free.
