A trophy is a trophy I guess

Borussia Dortmund have beaten Bayern Munich for the DFB Supercup! The final score was 2-0 with goals from Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho. While this game is really just a glorified friendly, a win over Bayern to warm up for the Bundesliga season is still a great sign.

The first half was super tense between BVB and Bayern. Bayern controlled all the possession and had a great press going, but BVB played a great counter game. This game really felt like the stereotypical Bayern-BVB game in the first half. Aside from Manuel Neuer running 30 yards from his box and a few good chances from BVB not much else happened in the half. You could say both sides were lucky to have a clean sheet at the end of 45’.

The second half was far more electric then the first. Sancho made a dribble and pass to Paco for a great opening goal in the 48th minute. Hopefully we see the Sancho-Paco connection a lot this year. Paco’s shot was great and totally pinpoint. The next 20 minutes was back and forth. BVB was super lucky to escape some Bayern chances that seemed like they just had to go in. Sancho put us up 2-0 in the 68th minute with another great run down the wing. Instead of giving it to Paco, this time he took the shot and rocketed it past Neuer. The last 20 or so minutes of the game were totally in Bayerns control. BVB’s defense held super strong and managed to keep the clean sheet. Towards the end of the game there was some shithousery from Joshua Kimmich who stomped Sanchos foot on the sidelines when the ball wasn’t even in play. Hopefully that lay is looked at after the game and he is given a fine(obviously a red wouldn’t o anything anyways).

Lots of great performances this game from the first real game of the year. Sancho looked awful in the first half but immediately picked himself up for the second. This is something he has done often in the past Honestly if we keep getting what we get from him I’m OK with that. Witsel played out of his mind and proves that he is BVBs number two player. He kept the Bayern press from breaking often and made some great passes forward. Hitz played great in goal when it came to making saves. His passing from the back needs work. And my last take is that Manuel Akanji is the most underrated CB in the world bar none. Great win boys!
