After months of low-level rumors linking Raphael Guerreiro to various transfer destinations such as Paris Saint-Germain, it looks like the Portuguese Winger’s transfer saga may finally be reaching critical mass. In a two-hour interview with schwarzgelbe Talk, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke discussed the transfer window and BVB’s upcoming season. One subject he touched upon was the fate of Raphael Guerreiro.
With Raphael Guerreiro’s contract expiring in 2020, BVB are looking to extend him further. However, in his interview, Watzke announced that Guerreiro will likely be sold if the two sides don’t come to an agreement over the coming weeks. There is interest from both sides, though, so nothing is certain yet.
Guerreiro had six goals and six assists in all competitions last season. He was a regular fixture, if not necessarily a key member, of BVB’s starting eleven. However, the arrival of Thorgan Hazard and the continued development of Jacob Bruun Larsen has made Rapha’s position on the left all the more tenuous, and it’s unclear exactly where he will sit on BVB’s depth chart. Whether he stays or goes, it looks like his fate will be decided in the coming weeks.
