The Daily Bee (July 23rd, 2019): Will Philipp and Rode both join Eintracht Frankfurt?

Plus “Pischu” might stay a bit longer than expected

Eintracht Frankfurt have lost two of their best players in Luka Jovic and Sebastian Haller and need to reinforce their roster if they want to come close to their success of the past two seasons. Luckily for them the compensation they got for their two stars allows them to make a few moves in the coming weeks.

One of them could certainly be Sebastian Rode who played an excellent second half of the season for them on loan and fits perfectly into Adi Hütter’s system. BVB don’t need Rode, a deal is likely.

According to Bild Rode isn’t the only BVB-player they are interested in. Maximilian Philipp’s transfer to Wolfsburg seems unlikely after their decision to hang on to Josip Brekalo. Wolfsburg’s sporting director jörg Schmadtke called a deal “almost impossible” in an interview with Sky.

This is Frankfurt’s chance to swoop in an secure Philipp. It could be a perfect fit, Philipp is versatile and Frankfurt needs reinforcements on offense. Plus their transfer earnings are more than enough to pay Dortmund’s demands which are reportedly at 18€ million.

A few weeks ago Lukasz Piszczek surprised everybody when he said that he would be open to extend his contract. After his last extension last year the right back announced that he would retire after this season but it seems he had a change of heart.

Michael Zorc seems to be pleased to hear it calling a possible extension “quite conceivable” and telling kicker how much the club values Piszczek:

“I appreciated that, we know what we have in him. Lukasz is a fantastic player and a fantastic person.”

However there won’t be any announcement anytime soon. The Polish international had some injury problems recently and he is already 34 years old. Both parties will evaluate the situation during the season and make a decision.

A lot has been made about BVB’s moves on the transfer market and their (uncharacteristically) aggressive announcement that they want to win the title. Bayern’s Niklas Süle has chimed in on the topic and wants to send a message in the Supercup:

“Dortmund already had a great team last year. I think it will be a very difficult season for us. It’s already starting with the Supercup, we have to set an example.“

It will hopefully be a an exciting race for the title and with BVB’s reinforcements this summer the black and yellows might be able to deny Bayern’s eight title in a row.
