It was a quick turnaround since the rumors began, but it’s now official as Borussia Dortmund center back Abdou Diallo has made a permanent transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. The fee received is a reported €32 million, according to Goal.

Diallo, a 23 year-old French center back, joined the Black and Yellow from Mainz in June 2018 and appeared in 32 total matches in the defense. Diallo totaled 2,381 minutes in 28 Bundesliga matches, showing his terrific talent and potential long-term partnership with Manuel Akanji. However, as the injuries piled up to our fullbacks, Diallo was often shifted out to left back as he played okay, while Dortmund’s title hopes eventually withered away.
With Mats Hummels returning to the Westfalenstadion after three seasons in Bavaria and the continuing development of youngsters Dan-Axel Zagadou and Leonardo Balerdi, Diallo must’ve felt that his spot in the center back depth chart was threatened and demanded a transfer out. Zorc obliged, and it wasn’t long before Diallo joined former BVB manager Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain.
It absolutely sucks to lose someone so young and talented as Diallo, especially as he can play center back and left back, positions Dortmund have very little first-team depth at. However, it wasn’t the worst bit of business that could’ve been made, as they made a slight bit of money back before you factor in wages and any other contractual bonuses still owed.
Best of luck at PSG, Abdou!
