In the last 24 hours, basketball’s silly season may have overshadowed football’s, but there’s plenty of the summer left, and surely there will be a few big moves to come yet. But not every transfer can be a blockbuster, and not every news item is breaking news. Sometimes it’s just… news.
Which brings us to Dzenis Burnic. Dortmund have announced he has extended his contract with the club until 2021, and will be heading back to Dynamo Dresden for another season long loan.

The 21 year old midfielder made 12 appearances for Dresden last season, in the Bundesliga 2, as they finished 12th in the league. He spent time at left back and defensive midfield while at Dresden, and seems to have shone in both roles, so much so that they wanted him back.
Overall, this looks to be a solid enough move for a young player in need of playing time. Another season spent in Germany’s second tier should give Burnic more time to develop, and the familiar surroundings should be good for him. It’s unclear if Burnic will ever make the grade for Dortmund, but this gives him the opportunity to perform well with Dresden, and either put himself in the shop window, or make his case for first team football with Dortmund. Either way, this seems like a sensible move for all involved.
