Is Mario Götze about to leave BVB again?

Borussia Dortmund have expressed their interest in extending Mario Götze’s contract that ends in 2020, however the club wants Götze to take a pay cut which reportedly leads him to hesitate about his future. Götze is currently one of the players with the highest salaries at BVB with 10€ million (bonuses included).

If he refuses to sign a new deal Arsenal could be one of the interested clubs. According to Bild the Premier League club has already signaled their interest and now await Götze’s decision.

This will surely be a hot topic among BVB-fans once again but personally I do understand if he wants to leave this time around. With the additions of Hazard and Brandt in midfield and possibly another striker there’s just no clear place for Götze in the team. It’s understandable that Dortmund wouldn't want to pay that kind of salary for someone that isn’t a clear starter but at the same there isn’t anything wrong with Götze taking some time to think about his future.

Dortmund might be looking for some reinforcements at centerback and Sport1 is bringing Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng into the conversation. Bayern’s president Uli Hoeneß has recommended that the German international should leave the club after tension throughout the entire season had strained the relationship between Boateng and the club. The outlet claims Dortmund could be one of the interested clubs in Boateng in addition to Inter Milan and Juventus.

This one seems a bit unrealistic. It’s unlikely that BVB would pay Boateng’s wages especially considering that he’s probably approaching the end of his career. Furthermore it would be surprising if Bayern would let him leave to a competitor if other options are available.

  • 11 players on the chopping block (Sport Bild)

Borussia Dortmund has made some great moves to start the transfer season with Schulz, Brandt and Hazard but that also means the squad is to big like it currently is. Michael Zorc will have to sell some players and according to Sport Bild 11 players could leave BVB.

Most notably all 7 players that were on loan this season can leave the club if an offer comes in, those are André Schürrle, Dzenis Burnic, Felix Passlack, Shinji Kagawa, Sebastian Rode, Jeremy Toljan and Alexander Isak. This should not come as a surprise to BVB-fans except maybe Isak. This would indicate that Dortmund are still looking for another option at centre forward.

Furthermore Raphael Guerreiro (whose contract situation is uncertain), Maximilian Philipp (Gladbach, RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg are interested), Marcel Schmelzer and Ömer Toprak could leave the club.

  • Europa League final

Today’s Europa League final will be a London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal. It should be a close game between the two Premier League teams and for Arsenal it’s not just the last chance for a title this season but also their only opportunity to qualify for the Champions League.
