After yesterday’s report that Thorgan Hazard had agreed to a deal with Borussia Dortmund, Max Eberl, Gladbach’s sporting director, has confirmed that the Belgian international won’t extend his contract:
“We signaled to Thorgan some time ago that we would like to renew with him.” [...] “But he did not respond to that, he informed us that he does not want to renew his contract and that he wants to leave Borussia after five years because he would like to take the next step for himself“
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Hazard’s transfer is confirmed but it forces Gladbach into an awkward position, one that BVB has been in many times over the past few years, either sell him because it’s the last possibility for them to generate a transfer fee or let him play out his contract and watch him leave for free next summer.
- Champions League returns
The Champions League will resume today without any Bundesliga teams remaining in the competition. Jürgen Klopp’s FC Liverpool and Manchester City are the favorites to win their respective match-ups against FC Porto and Tottenham Hotspur, although the Premier League duel could be closer than people think.
